It is reported that the OLED screens of all four iPhone 15 phones will use Samsung M12 material

In addition, there is another difference between them, which is related to the materials used for display screens. According to official reports, the iPhone 14 and Plus models are manufactured using Samsung's 11th generation materials, while the two Pro models use 12th generation materials - known as M11 and M12, respectively.

Korean media TheElec reported that all four iPhone 15 models will use the latest M12 material for OLED screens this year, and Samsung will also use the same technology in the latest Galaxy Fold/Flip5. However, only the Pro series models will have LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide).

It is said that Apple may skip M13 and adopt more advanced M14 materials next year. The report points out that this is a set of materials specifically developed for Apple and is expected to be applied to the iPhone 16 series released next year. Of course, Samsung displays that other customers, such as Samsung Electronics, still use M13 materials.

OLED is an organic electroluminescent device composed of relatively special organic materials. It can be divided into four types according to its structure, namely single-layer device, double-layer device, three-layer device, and multi-layer device.

The M11 and M12 referred to here refer to the material composition used to manufacture OLEDs. According to public information, the OLED material group consists of a luminescent layer and a common layer, such as a dopant (luminescent body), a main body (luminescent layer), red (R), green (G), and blue (B).

Apple used its own LT material on the iPhone X, the first OLED iPhone in 2017, and the iPhone XS in 2018, but has been using the same M-series material as Samsung Electronics Galaxy since 2019.
