LCD display shipments soared, Samsung temporarily withdrew from LCD plan
Due to the global home environment, the demand for displays has ushered in a substantial increase. Samsung Display expects LCD display shipments to reach 22.9 million units, an increase of nearly 40% year-on-year.
Previously, due to intensified competition in the LCD market in recent years, panel prices plummeted, and LCD panel profits hit the bottom line of the industry, Samsung Display has decided to abandon the LCD panel market. Not only did it close the LCD factory in South Korea at the end of last year, but it also decided to stop LCD panels at the end of the year. produce.
Although Samsung Display has shut down most of its LCD panel production lines, Samsung ’s market survey subsequently revealed that the demand for displays has increased substantially in the context of the global home environment. In this regard, Samsung Display expects to increase shipments of LCD monitors by 22.9 million units, with shipments up nearly 40% from last year.
On the other hand, because Samsung's own brand TVs, tablets and other products still have high demand for LCD, Samsung decided to hand over all its own brand LCD orders to Hon Hai manufacturers such as Sharp and Innolux. In addition, subject to contract constraints, Samsung Display's Suzhou plant may operate until 2021.
However, affected by the epidemic, Samsung still plans to reduce the output of LCD TV panels by up to about 18.3 million units. According to previous reports and the continuous release of Samsung Micro LED and QLED TVs, it can also be seen that Samsung ’s main energy is still concentrated on QLED Point and Micro LED display technology.
