Research and research: The prosperity of large-size LCD continues until the first half of 2021. According to the latest IDC Worldwide Large Sized LCD Panel Monthly Shipment Volume Report, a market research organization, IDC Worldwide Large Sized LCD Panel Monthly Shipment Volume Report shows that due to the tight supply of some components, the industry is expected to see a boom in large-size LCD displays. The boom is expected to continue into the first half of 2021, and the profitability of major panel makers is also worth looking forward to.

According to the survey, in 2020, including portable computer LCD panels (Portable PC Panel)/notebook computer panels, monitor LCD panels (LCD Monitor Panel), TV panels (LCD TV Panel), shipments will increase significantly, the whole year The total shipment volume is as high as 659 million pieces, and the annual growth rate is 7.28%, which is the highest record in the past 10 years.

IDC's global professional foundry and display industry research team senior research analyst Chen Jianzhu pointed out that the global large-size LCD panel industry in 2020 will mainly benefit from the housing economy and home office effects brought about by the COVID-19 epidemic, supporting large-size applications The demand for liquid crystal display panels, while the Korean factory plans to gradually reduce the production capacity of LCD panels, resulting in an increase in the volume and price of large-size LCD panels throughout 2020.

Among them, the shipment of portable computer LCD panels in 2020 will reach 224 million, a record high. The shipment of monitor LCD screen panels in 2020 was 163 million, which also set a new record since 2013. Although TV LCD panel shipments declined by 5% in 2020 to 271 million units, due to supply constraints, prices in 2020 will rise.

If we only look at the shipment volume of three major application panels such as NB, Monitor, and TV, the shipment volume of the top five panel makers will account for approximately 75.5% of the total shipment volume by 2020. Among them, BOE and Innolux (3481) still ranked first and second with market share of 22.6% and 17.0% respectively. AUO (2409) benefited from strong demand for IT panels and gained a share of Korean factories, with a market share of 14.4%, ranking third.

The fourth place is LG Display of South Korea, with a market share of about 14%, and the fifth place is China Star Optoelectronics, with a market share of 6.8%. Among them, China Star Optoelectronics has improved its shipment ranking in 2020. The main reason is that the company has launched a new production capacity of 10.5 generation and has entered the portable computer LCD panel and monitor LCD panel market.

The 32-inch Open Cell (a semi-finished product without a backlight) used as a pointer to the TV panel will be offered at a discounted price of about US$64 for a large order in December 2020, an increase of about 5% (US$3) from the previous month. Large-size 55-inch LCD panels also rose 4% (US$7) to around US$175 each. Compared with the recent lowest point in May 2020, the increase is about 70% to 90%. TV sales are considered to remain strong, and panel demand is strong.

Although the increase has narrowed compared with November, many voices said that the panel prices in December "increased more than expected" (the person in charge of panel procurement for TV companies).

he price of LCD panels used in personal computers has also continued to rise. The 15.6-inch (high-definition resolution) panels used in notebook computers rose by US$1 (3%) from last month to around US$33 per sheet. Demand for personal computers and tablet computers is strong, rising by about 20% from the lowest point.

Yoshio Tamura, the Asian representative of the American research company DSCC, believes that in the context of strong demand and shortages of parts, "there is a high probability that TV panels will continue to rise in January." If panel prices continue to rise, it may push up TV sales prices.
